8:02, on 20th April, 2013, a 7-magnitude earthquake happened in Lushan county in Ya’an in Sichuan Province (North 30.3, East 103.0). The depth of hypocenter was 13 km and the epicenter was Longmen village in Lushan County. After the tragedy, the military and the people’s armed police immediately went to Lushan County for rescue. However, the terrible communication connection between disaster area and command center impeded the timely, efficient, and exact instruction and rescue. At that moment, every concerned people could do nothing but wait and pray for them.

    There were 99% houses collapsed in Longmen village and badly ruined public infrastructure of electricity, communication, and network around epicenter area. The severe damage caused the interruption of communication and general communication mode, like GSM/GPRS/3G/ Ethernet/telephone network could not handle the task of emergency communication command. However, the earlier we set up a reliable communication path, the greater hope we had saving lives.

    Satellite communication! The emergency command car equipped with SANETEL SOTM antenna got into the disaster area at the same time and updated the situation to the command center by satellite network, as well as every Chinese holding breath waiting for the news. The rescuers got rescue instructions from command center by satellite communication later and started searching and rescuing.
